‘Bones’ season 9, episode 20 review: Who got fired, re-hired within an hour?

What's ahead -Given that Monday night’s “Bones” season 9 episode was entitled “The High in the Low,” it only makes sense that the story would be and large be stuffed full of highs and lows … especially when it comes to the Wendell character. This guy learned he had cancer a matter of weeks ago, and tonight, he learned that he had also lost his job.

The reason for his dismissal by Cam is something that was fairly predictable given the overarching story of this episode: Drug use. Specifically, the ethics surrounding marijuana. Booth clearly had his opinion on the subject, but so did everyone else. For some, it was something used recreationally, and for others, it was treatment. The show did a good job ultimately maintaining the middle ground in not really taking that much of a side, and they also did a good job giving Wendell a happy ending … at least for now. He didn’t get his old job back per se, but he was handed a new one that keeps him away from evidence, but allows him to have a valuable role in the Jeffersonian.

In the end, we feel like this was a pretty important hour for the show in establishing what Wendell will do moving forward, but we also feel a little bit of frustration over one thing: How long the show is taking to resolve the story with the Ghost Killer. Heck, we’d even take a little nugget where the show introduces the story again, given that there has been radio silence ever since the start of 2014. Grade: B.
