‘American Idol’ notes: New David Archuleta video; Harry Connick Jr. on Sam Woolf save

The logo -David Archuleta’s new video – We’ll start this edition of “American Idol” notes off with something that is still big news to many people: The return of David Archuleta following his extensive Mormon mission. This is something that kept him away for a full two years, and obviously a lot has changed in that time.

For this reason, David specifically makes a mention here to take everyone for their “patience” as he gets used to being back around his family and friends again. It’s hard to get used to things again after being away from the status quo for so long, but we’re sure that in time, you will get a chance to hear some more music from him.

Harry Connick Jr. defends the save – Before we say anything else here, let us make one thing clear: We have a very hard time believing that Sam Woolf getting the save had anything to do with Sam Woolf at all. Instead, we’re more of the mindset that anyone was going to get the save who ended up in the spot in which he was in last night, since the show just wanted to get it out of the way this time rather than run the risk of it not getting used.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter about this after the show, judge Harry gave us a pretty big clue of this when he said that the judges would have probably saved any of the bottom three (Malaya Watson, Sam, and CJ Harris) had they been in danger:

“As soon as we saw who the three were, we immediately started saying, ‘What does each of these people bring to the competition if we give them the save?’ We talked about all three of them, and when we heard it was Sam, we started flying back-and-forth … I think ultimately we decided to use it on Sam because we think he needs to be in the competition. He brings some things to it that are unique to him; and we get one save, and we thought he was the guy to use it on.”
