‘The Good Wife’ season 5 spoilers: Details on first episode without Josh Charles

We’ll go ahead and give one more warning here, just in case for some reason you really have not had an opportunity to watch this past episode of “The Good Wife” yet: If you want to avoid spoilers, you really want to stop reading now.

Still here? Then let’s move on here to discuss “A Material World” for a minute. This is technically the first full episode without Josh Charles playing a part onscreen; while Will Graham is dead, he will appear in flashbacks during Sunday night’s new episode “The Last Call” (which you can read a little bit more about at the link here). Will’s death is still going to be ringing home during this episode, and it also appears as though we could even be seeing a possible merger again between Lockhart/Gardner and Florrick/Argos in the wake of what has happened:

“Alicia and Diane consider merging their firms in the wake of Will’s death, even as they find themselves on opposite sides of a contentious divorce suit. Meanwhile, Alicia offers assistance to Finn when it becomes clear that the State’s Attorney is looking for a scapegoat in the Jeffrey Grant case.”

If the firms merge again, what was the point of Alicia leaving in the first place? To us, it feels like there was significance behind it as a power move for Alicia, and she would be going back now in a much higher position than she was before leaving. A merger also makes more sense just from the standpoint of keeping this entire cast together, given that it’s hard to continue bouncing between two firms in the way that we have been forever.
