‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 10, episode 17 review: All about Sandra Oh’s Cristina Yang
“Grey’s Anatomy” loves their experimental episodes, and we certainly had that on Thursday night with “Do You Know?” It was one of the more interesting stories that we have seen the show try out over the years. It was the tale of how Cristina Yang figured out the path that she wanted to take moving forward … especially when it comes to Owen.
Going into a story like this, you knew that Sandra Oh was going to dominate. She almost always does on this show, and watching her look at her possible future was a great chance to see all angles of her personality. There was happiness, and then there was also sadness.
The strange part of the episode, though, is that when you really think about it, there wasn’t actually much at all that really happened. All we had instead is a series of scenes that could show Cristina being extremely successful, and also some showing Owen completely falling apart. This was all about two things to us: The subtlety and also the performances. Oh was absolutely brilliant, and so was Kevin McKidd. Chandra Wilson also did a sensational job behind the director’s chair, and we give her credit for taking on the risk.
The one thing that this entire story really needed from us in order for us to be truly happy was some sort of little button on the end to give us a better understanding as to where she was going next. Walking Owen walk into the elevator alone was something … but not enough. Grade: B.
