‘The Walking Dead’ season 4 spoilers: Scott Gimple on drama leading to finale

More news -It’s funny how the internet works. When “The Walking Dead” switched from Frank Darabont to Glen Mazzara, Twitter was under siege with panic and pandemonium. Meanwhile, there were similar levels of freaking out when it was revealed that Mazzara (who had elevated the show during his tenure) was leaving, and he was being replaced with Scott Gimple.

But, here’s the thing: Despite a shaky first part of season 4, this has been a great run for the show this spring. “The Grove” from last Sunday may be one of the best episodes of the entire series. Going with smaller, more character-driven stories has been refreshing for a program that has become at times inundated with just murdering as many zombies as possible.

So how does the showrunner describe the final two chapters this season? Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Gimple’s comments help to serve as extra evidence to the idea that we could see many more stories at least featured, if not brought together as the journey to Terminus continues:

“To the emotional conclusion of the season. Both episodes are really big episodes. There are some insane things that happen. There are some tragic things that happen, There are some things that happen that are hopeful. And there is just some remarkably dark stuff. And stories crashing together.”

We expect there to be at least one or two groups who are reunited before the end, just as we also expect there two be at least one more character whose life hangs in the balance. We feel like Carol and Tyreese are probably safe thanks to the tragedy that they just dealt with when it comes to Mika and Lizzie, but we would be worried about almost everyone else. We do still feel pretty good for Glenn and Maggie’s odds, though, mostly because the last thing that we could see happening with these two is that they die before getting the opportunity to be reunited again.

We’ll have a more in-depth preview of Sunday’s “Us” over the weekend, so be on the lookout for that. You can also sign up to get more updates from our CarterMatt Newsletter sent right to your email.
