‘Game of Thrones’ season 4 spoilers: A comedic new take on show’s production
With “Game of Thrones” season 4 premiering in just three weeks (hooray!), this is the time in which HBO really starts to unload all of their good stuff in hopes of getting you to watch. What does some of this good stuff include? Think along the lines of learning about the writing process., and just how much work it takes to get a show off the ground.
As you would expect with a production of this nature, this was not a particularly easy show to get off the ground. There were many components that made the process difficult, including ensuring that George R.R. Martin was on board with the adaptation, and also the years that it took to actually shoot the pilot. The video below (narrated by Charles Dance) features showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss telling the journey of how they first came across the books, and despite having little to no experience in the world of television, decided to take the project to HBO in hopes of getting it made.
This was a risky experiment for the network to go along with, and mistakes were made in the process. However, in the end there is no denying that it was the right move. “Game of Thrones” is the network’s most successful series now around the world, and draws more than 10 million viewers a week across various platforms. It is also a hub for merchandise and DVD sales.
