‘Girls’ season 3, episode 9 review: Are Hannah and Adam ‘engaged’?
Sunday night’s episode of “Girls” did not really make much of an effort at all to tell more than just s simple, isolated story. This was mostly about Hannah, her family, and a story about whether or not her grandmother was going to die by the time the story is over.
When it comes to the relationships, perhaps the biggest news here was that Adam and Hannah engaged … or at least pretended to be engaged. This was a suggestion made so that her grandmother would feel like one of her grandchildren had made significant progress in their lives. Hannah was opposed, then afraid that Adam didn’t want to marry her, and then surprised when he was the one to go through with the original plan.
Of course, the strange part here was that the show completely tricked us into thinking that her grandmother was going to pull through, only to then take her away at the end following a sudden heart attack. What a depressing end to the episode, and from a life standpoint, we appreciated how this went. We do wonder whether or not “Girls” is dealing too much with death this season, though, given that we had a similar story a little earlier this season.
“Flo” was a solid story about family, coping, tragedy, and really just how everyone has an opinion about everything. It was a solid story, but at the same time, can we hope for something a little more cheerful next time around? Grade: B.
