‘Piers Morgan Live’ to likely end on CNN next month
How is this for some more breaking news on a weekend that has been stuffed full of it? After some pretty woeful ratings the past several months, Piers Morgan has more or less confirmed that his CNN talk show “Piers Morgan Live” will be ending.
His comments come via a new interview with the New York Times, where he explained that his own political leanings, which include a strong stance on gun control, are part of the reason why so many viewers tuned him out:
“It’s been a painful period and lately we have taken a bath in the ratings … Look, I am a British guy debating American cultural issues, including guns, which has been very polarizing, and there is no doubt that there are many in the audience who are tired of me banging on about it.”
Piers also explained that he is still working with CNN head Jeff Zucker to potentially find a new role, but he admits that being an ordinary newscaster is something that is probably not up his alley:
“I think I can credibly do news and the ratings reflect that, but it is not really the show that I set out to do. There are all kinds of people who can do news here … I’d like to do work — interviews with big celebrities and powerful people — that is better suited to what I do well and fit with what Jeff is trying to do with the network.”
Where do we feel like Piers will end up? We’re thinking that he will get a chance to interview celebrities somewhere, but his issue is that he can be very confrontational. If you are a star, there are so many other people you can go to these days for an interview. This is not like the days of Larry King. We find that Piers is best interviewing people more away from the political world, and we also admittedly loved him on “America’s Got Talent” for many years.
What is your response to Piers’ exit, and did you think that this was a long time coming? Share your thoughts below, and head over here if you want to get more updates from our CarterMatt Newsletter.
