Super Bowl commercials: David Beckham takes his clothes off for H&M
If you love David Beckham, then we imagine that you are probably very happy about this new Super Bowl commercial featuring the soccer legend. This is one that basically had one simple theme to it, and that was the soccer star taking his clothes off to promote his new H&M line. Beckham may have retired from professional soccer, but he still has quite the modeling career moving forward.
But how does this ad really stack up compared to some of the others? That is what we’re here to discuss now.
What worked – The biggest thing is Beckham. He’s a guy who is a huge star, and his presence will cause the ad to get attention. Also, it has already been fairly proven over the years that Beckham in little clothing sells … at least for women. The company has to hope that wives and girlfriends may be paying attention to this more than anyone else.
What didn’t – Did we need more of Beckham without clothing? This is something that we have already seen a number of times over the past couple of years. Is anyone out there really going to think in watching this ad that will suddenly go out and buy clothing? We don’t know how many men out there think they can dress just like Beckham and pull it off, let alone jump around on buildings like we saw during this commercial.
Our grade: C. Sure, this works for some people, but it’s not going to get anyone new into H&M.
