‘Saturday Night Live’ returns minus Seth Meyers (but with Colin Jost) March 1; no host announced
After this weekend’s edition of “Saturday Night Live,” the Winter Olympics in Sochi are going to cause a pretty significant hiatus for the show in the middle of the season. On the surface, that’s a reason to be sad. We love our dose of Saturday silliness!
However, at the same time, we also do understand that this delay will be a good thing for the show. They are losing Seth Meyers as both a writer and a “Weekend Update” co-anchor tonight, and Colin Jost will need some time to settle in the position. Jost is already a co-head writer on the show and has been responsible for some great bits, so it is not like they are needing to make an enormous transition here with a complete newbie.
The only announcement that we were really waiting for during this episode was who was going to be the host and the musical guest when the show does return. However, NBC didn’t give us that. Instead, they merely advertised during the show that March 1 would be the date in which the show comes back. This may be one of the first times that they have ever had an edition of the show where they did not reveal their next host in-season, provided of course that the host was not announced already. The only reason that we can imagine them not lifting the veil here is because they have not solidified someone yet. They may have a few people in mind, but they are working on scheduling to get the right person around for the right date.
