Seth Meyers will leave ‘Saturday Night Live’ February 1; Amy Poehler to be on ‘Late Night’

Seth Meyers had a chance at the winter TCA event Sunday to tell all sorts of great info on his upcoming version of “Late Night,” and that included the opportunity to learn just who was going to be his first-ever guest on the show.

As it turns out, it is someone who you are going to remember very well from his days on “Saturday Night Live”: Amy Poehler. His former “Weekend Update” co-anchor is going to be speaking with Seth straight off the gate, and there will be many still-unannounced guests coming up throughout the week.

As for some other pertinent information, Meyers will close out the late-night show on February 1, which is the one hosted by Melissa McCarthy. It seems like he is slowly and surely working through many of the classic characters that he has spoken to over the years, and the only way that would end his era appropriately, at least in our mind, would be one final appearance from Stefon to help tie everything together.

One thing that Meyers is looking to add to his own late-night show is some fake interviews using real characters, which worked so well on “Weekend Update” in the first place. He then made a joke to the journalists in attendance about a popular recent creation on the show:

“[SNL and Late Night writer] Alex Baze and I wrote Taran Killam’s Jebidiah Atkinson character and as soon as we did we thought, ‘We should have waited six months!’”

One of the cool things about his making this show in the same studio as “Late Night” is that it does offer up the opportunity to have “SNL” stars past and present on the show easily, and it gives Seth a sense of comfort. Let’s just hope that they are ready to move on without him.
