‘How I Met Your Mother’ season 9, episode 11 review: The right time for rhymes?

Really, this is the most objective episode in the show’s history, since if you love rhymes, then you’ll love the cleverness and the humor that the writers put into this. This was not easy work, and they deserve a massive amount of credit.
Marshall took on the role of storyteller this week as he tried to explain a series of stories about the gang’s past to baby Marvin as though they were fairy tales, with the hopes of him falling asleep. These included the tale of how Robin ended up getting her stomach pumped, Ted going to dinner with someone who may or may not have been asking her out, and Barney meeting with the “council of players.” All of this was ridiculous, and most of this had nothing to do with the upcoming Barney / Robin wedding. But it was charming, and there was a lovely little game that we got out of trying to figure out what sort of rhymes were going to come up next.
Overall, we don’t think that “Bedtime Stories” is necessarily a classic episode of the series … mostly because there was not really that much that actually happened in it. It just more of a nice a one-shot story aided by some smart writing. Just don’t worry: There are still great moments left in this “How I Met Your Mother” story. Grade: B+.

The rhyming episode was the WORST. Just a lousy gimmick from a show that is WAAY past it’s prime. I heard they added an extra season so we could get to know the mother, but she hasn’t even appeared yet! What a waste a time. The rhyming totally ruined this episode. They might as well have mimed the whole thing.
