Ratings: ‘Almost Human,’ NFL hurt ‘Once Upon a Time’

The latest -

For a few years now, ABC really had something going when it comes to “Once Upon a Time.” But now, the series is really starting to show signs that there could not be the same sort of storybook ending that we and so many others were hoping for it to have.

With a 1.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic on Sunday night, this is a new series low for a show that once debuted to a rating higher than a 4.0 over two years ago. Has the Peter Pan story really been that big of a turn-off? While we have had concerns that the amount of green-screen as of late could come across as cheesy,we attribute this right now more to the one-two punch of NFL football and the premiere of “Almost Human” really making a dent in the show’s live numbers. We’re still not worried about it being picked up for another season for syndication reasons alone, but the odds of there being a season 5 could decrease more and more depending on if the show can turn it around or not.

In going back to the “Almost Human” numbers for a moment, getting a 3.1 in your first episode is certainly solid. However, we almost expected better given that you had a huge lead-in courtesy of NFL football that was even over a 5.0 during the post-game show. “Sleepy Hollow” got off to a better start with nothing more than “Bones” as a lead-in. The real test will obviously be tonight, but it could be benefited some more by not having a new episode of “The Voice” to air against. (NBC for some silly reason has delayed the start of the show until 9:00 p.m. Eastern).

Just in case you’re curious about other shows, “Revenge” fans can at least be happy with the show rising to a 1.5 rating … but that’s still not good. It is still better than anything on CBS not named “The Amazing Race,” though, and it is ahead of the dud otherwise known as “Betrayal,” which ABC seems to be committed to airing in full despite its awful ratings.

Do you think that “Almost Human” kill keep even two-thirds of this number tonight? Share some of your thoughts below, and click here to read more news on “Once Upon a Time’s” future.
