ABC’s ‘Castle’ season 6 spoilers: Is season 7 really the end of the mystery series?
How much of a life does “Castle” have left in it? Let’s put it this way: The show is pretty much a lock to be renewed for next year, as it is the second-best series that ABC has that airs after 9:00 p.m. Eastern. It also does pretty well in DVR viewing, has a large international following, and also it has Nathan Fillion. Who doesn’t love him?
But, there are still some questions that lie ahead beyond a seventh season, including some potentially difficult contract negotiations. This is the time when it starts to get difficult paying people, and there is also the issue that some of these people want to do something different after seven full years on the job.
But one person who definitely wants to see the show continue on it’s present road? Creator Andrew Marlowe, who tells TVLine that he has no intention at all of grinding the show to a halt so long as there is a story to tell:
“I never declared Season 7 as the final season. What I said is that there’s an organic ending in the show and the characters will tell me when that is. I listen to the characters, and there’s going to be a point where we’ve had the best storytelling that these characters can give us … [The story at the center of the show with Rick and Kate] can take 10 to 12 years if everybody wants to.”
This is always a difficult sort of issue to gauge. From one standpoint, you want to see the show go on forever just so that all of the hard-working crew members can stay employed. That’s something that most everyone forgets about while selfishly rooting for shows to stay on the air, but at the same time you don’t want to see a show on for so long that it gets boring. Realistically, we could see the show lasting until season 8 or so while still having something left to say.

Agree about Stana Katic. Most beautiful woman on television. Wouldn’t even watch the show if not for her.

At one of the comic-cons in Canada this summer, Nathan answered a question about his future. He said he was contractually obligated to Castle for 7 seasons, but then he wanted to do less time-consuming projects and a variety of projects. It would appear that Nathan is tired of the long hours at Castle. The show wouldn’t be the same without the duo of Stana and Nathan.

Sorry ….Nathan is flat, not the star and definitely not the rising star of the series. Stana Katic has taken center stage and is the rising star with potential outside the show. I think it’s going to be more of a challenge to pay her and keep her although she at least supports the show and her character both on and off the show, unlike Nathan…..

Unless they throw a lot of money at him and give him time off to do other projects, I can’t see Nathan going past Season 7. Seven Seasons is a long time to be the lead of a tv show, and he’s going to have other options he’ll want to explore.
