‘Modern Family’ season 5: Could possible Rob Riggle spin-off be coming?
How is this for something you did not expect to hear today? ABC is at least considering the idea of commissioning a “Modern Family” spin-off, and are now trying to figure out just what they would want it to look like, and who could potentially star in it.
According to a report from Deadline, the leading candidate for a spin-off would be one centered all around Rob Riggle’s character of Gil Thorpe, who appeared in two episodes last season. The team of executive producers Paul Corrigan and Brad Walsh would be responsible for getting the project together, and potentially taking it to the next level if there is enough interest and ideas at the end of the day. (As you can tell, this is in the very early stages.)
While we are getting rather annoyed with all the spin-off talk lately, in between a possible “NCIS: New Orleans,” a show centering around the Flash, and more, this is a project that really could work well for ABC. They haven’t been able to find a 9:30 companion to “Modern Family” despite trying hard, and based on what we’ve seen, they are not going to find it with “Super Fun Night.” It’s the biggest waste of its star power out of anything on the schedule this fall. This could give them a bigger audience going into the 10:00 o’clock hour, and some comedy spin-offs have worked very well over the years.
But, it all hinges on the idea being great, and having the right people behind the scenes really putting in the effort to make sure that the quality is top-notch.
Do you think that we really need a “Modern Family” spin-off show, or are your concerns simply that it could ultimately dilute the quality of the original? Be sure to share some of your thoughts below!
