‘The Newsroom’ season 3 ‘official’; show renewed per Jeff Daniels
Has “The Newsroom” been officially renewed for another season? While the network hasn’t released a statement yet saying so, we imagine that you can probably take Jeff Daniels at his word here. After all, he’s Will McAvoy, and he surely does not want to cause an Operation Genoa-like panic among some of the show’s devoted fans.
In a post on his Twitter account, the Emmy-nominated actor kept it short and to the point with the following message: “It’s official. #Newsroom coming back for a Season 3.” HBO has yet to release a statement saying anything about the renewal, but they probably will pretty soon.
Really, it has been assumed for some time that “The Newsroom” would be back. While it is not a smash hit, the ratings are solid, and the show has improved significantly in quality this summer (and we say this as someone who did enjoy the first season, as well). With the news that “True Blood” is ending next year, as well, the network needs to at least try to secure some other series for at least a little while to join “Game of Thrones” as mainstays. This and “Boardwalk Empire” are its only other options, and the latter is already in its fourth season and is very expensive to make.
The only reason for a holdup on renewal for this show has been the busy schedule of creator Aaron Sorkin, who is currently working on a variety of different projects.
