NBC’s ‘Community’ season 5: Dan Harmon reassures fans after Donald Glover news
At this point, we hope that you (like so many of us on this end) have had an opportunity to really sit back and digest what was some pretty terrible news that came out earlier this week: Donald Glover is hardly going to be a regular presence on “Community” for every episode this coming season. Rather, he’s only going to be appearing in five installments as the actor wants to focus more of his attention on his rap career as Childish Gambino. (In case you’re wondering why we’ve included the LeVar Burton picture, it’s because we had the same look on our face as Troy does here when we first heard the news about what is happening.)
So what can the show creator (and returning showrunner) say about some of this terrible news? All he can really do is try to assure everyone that the high quality of the episodes that they do have coming up will be worth it. Writing in a post on Twitter, here is what Dan Harmon had to say:
“Listen. It’s Community. The day it’s quiet is the day we need to panic. #sixseasonsandamovie #bestonecoming”
Dan probably has a pretty significant point here, given that the show has went through enough turmoil over the years that its life behind the scenes could be written for a future soap opera. The show has survived Harmon’s initial exit, new showrunners, bad reviews for season 4, and the departure of Chevy Chase just to get to where they are today. We can make it trough this too.
Are you as confident as Harmon is, or are you having a Troy Barnes-style meltdown like he did after he met LeVar Burton when he only wanted a picture? We have some more “Community” scoop on the Comic-Con panel and more, if you check out the story here.
