‘Doctor Who’ season 8 spoilers: Rory Kinnear tries to douse 12th Doctor casting talk again
This just in: Rory Kinnear is still not going to play the 12th Doctor on “Doctor Who.” The actor has been perpetually linked to the BBC show both before and after Matt Smith announced that he would be leaving the show after this year’s Christmas special, but we are pretty sure that the actor has just given the most firm denial in the history of denials about the possibility that he could step into this role.
Speaking in a new interview with the Independent, Kinner made if very clear that he is not only uninterested in playing the part of The Doctor, but that he has never really watched the show and has no clue what it is even about:
“I don’t where it came from and how these things evolve … I haven’t been and I am totally certain that I will not be asked to be the next Doctor Who. If I was an actor who was really longing to play Doctor Who, then this would be torturous, but it’s a programme I’ve never watched, so I don’t even really know what it is.”
Ultimately, we like to see this as further proof of one of our own current theories: The person who is actually cast for the role as the doctor is probably not going to be someone that we’re hearing about in the press. Likely in fear of getting the role snatched out from under them, they will likely be rather silent about it.
Do you think that this quote will finally stop some of the ridiculous rumors that are constantly linking Kinnear to this part? We want to hear from you below! If you do want to check out all of the news about the series invading Comic-Con a little later this year, all you have to do is check out the story over at the link here.

I’m surprised anyone born in 1970s England would not know Doctor Who. Having said that, he doesn’t fit the part anyway.
I vote for Bradley James. He’d be like a young Peter Davison.

Do I think it’ll stop the rumours? No. There are some people who will say that he is BOUND to deny it until an official announcement… The firmer the denial, the more some will yell “Smokescreen!”
I agree with the article. I think it’s likely to be someone who isn’t being mentioned. Inevitably, people link well-known actors to the part (They’re unlikely to link the unknown actors, because… they don’t know who they are.)…
But that doesn’t preclude the possibility of a relative unknown getting the part. Indeed, that’s what mostly happens, isn’t it? Davison was well-known before he got the part, Eccleston too, and David Tennant was just starting to get famous before he was cast. Other than that, Doctors are usually people you never heard about before.
And it’s probably better that way.
