Is Oliver Platt leaving Chicago Med following the events of season 11 episode 17 tonight? Let’s just start by saying we understand the fear.

After all, consider the following first and foremost here: We are talking about a beloved character and beyond that, one of the few people who have been with the NBC medical drama from the very beginning. We would love for him to be around forever! However, we are also acutely aware of the fact that very few characters are around forever, and people like Olivia Benson, Timothy McGee, and Miranda Bailey are exceptions rather than the rule. Most series are lucky to have the same actors on board for six or seven years, let alone what has gone on here with Platt as Dr. Charles.

What we can say here, for starters, is how episode 17 is kicking off: In the aftermath of him having an apparent stroke. The writers want you to be worried, and the promos showed a real struggle to save his life. There was no reporting out there ahead of the episode suggesting that Oliver was leaving; however, at the same time, there was also nothing that confirmed he would be staying, either. The uncertainty was present and beyond just that, certainly intentional.
