The Testaments season 2: Does Ann Dowd anticipate renewal?

At the time of this writing, it should be noted that The Testaments has yet to be renewed by Hulu for more. However, do we still think it is going to happen? Without question. The original The Handmaid’s Tale was incredibly successful, and this show has a chance to carry all of that momentum. Also, remember that you have a star on the rise at the center of it in Chase Infiniti, and that is without noting the return of Ann Dowd as Aunt Lydia.

Is Lydia the sort of character who could turn the tide in Gilead? Well, she’s at least complicated. We are speaking about someone who does care for the young women who are under her, but is she really about to be a revolutionary? There is certainly a debate to be had about that, and it is one that could last for a good chunk of the season.

What we can at least say about the long-term is that Dowd is preparing for another chapter to happen already. Here is what she had to say on that subject as a part of an extensive interview with Deadline:

“Well, we haven’t been picked up yet. I think it will be. I’m pretty sure that this is going to be picked up… so they’re in the writer’s room now. I mean, not this moment, but they have begun writing it. So, I think it’s soon to come. I’m sure they’d like to have several seasons. There’s a lot to tell.”

This goes along with some of what showrunner Bruce Miller has said in the past. He is clearly not someone looking to cut the universe short at this point, and why would he? The ultimate hope is that we do see Gilead toppled, though it remains to be seen how long that could take.
