NCIS season 24: Rocky Carroll will return to direct

Even though Rocky Carroll’s character of Leon Vance was killed off not too long ago on NCIS, we remain happy that he is still around. For example, we know that he will be back to direct at least one more episode this season.
Beyond that, though, isn’t it also nice to know he is to be returning for season 24 in a similar capacity? It shows that he does have that positive relationship with the series, even if it remains a little bit soul-crushing that the team has lost its Director and the future of the job remains unclear.

In speaking about a lot of this a little bit further in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, here is some of what Carroll had to say:
… Not only will I still watch the show; I’ll still be part of it. I’ve been asked to come back and direct next season, even though my character is dead. But we also have coined the term “ghost stars.” We have more characters who have been killed off who come back as apparitions and spirits. And we do flashbacks, where people have died long ago are very significant. So I wouldn’t be surprised [if] Vance might be more prevalent dead than he was when he was alive.
We can easily imagine a case or two that is tied in some way to Vance’s past, and that is something we would love to see explored if the timing is right. Do we think that is going to happen right away, though? Hardly, and really, it shouldn’t. If you are producers, you probably want to do what you can to ensure that the absence of Leon is felt for a while … even if it is hard.
