The Hunting Party season 3: Is Netflix really helping renewal cause?

If there is one hour-long drama series at NBC that is still facing a great deal of uncertainty at present, it is The Hunting Party. So where do things currently stand?

Well, according to a report from Deadline, the situation is complicated. In a move that was designed to be beneficial to the Melissa Roxburgh series, the entire first season was released on Netflix earlier this year. It started off strong at the service, but has since dipped off. Meanwhile, its presence there has not done much of anything to help the live + same-day numbers for season 2. These totals are down versus season 1, though not by some extreme number that makes cancellation a sure thing.

What we are ultimately getting at here is rather simple, and it is the notion that this is not an easy situation to figure out one way or another. While we would personally love to see The Hunting Party get another kick at the can, its performance so far is a reminder of how hard it can be for an original network TV property to find its footing. It is why there are so many franchises across the medium at this point.

We will at least say this in regards to season 2: NBC and the producers have done a really good job of populating Bex’s world with a lot of familiar names from the world of TV, whether it be Kelsey Grammer, Piper Perabo, or even Roxburgh’s previous Manifest co-star in Josh Dallas. These are people who viewers should really want to check out, especially in roles that are this twisted. (Of course, for the actors themselves this is a chance to do something completely different and unexpected.)
