The Pitt season 2 episode 13: Is Ogilvie leaving for good?

By the end of The Pitt season 2 episode 13 we saw multiple characters wrap up their shifts — but could one of them actually be gone for good? Let’s just say there is a chance of that when it comes to Ogilvie.

Throughout most of the season, we have seen Lucas Iverson’s character come in as an ambitious guy who wants to rise up the ranks at the hospital — he knows a lot about medicine, but also has close to zero street-smarts. He was condescending to patients, talked over his colleagues, and got overly competitive with Javadi. That was all before starting to experiencing the sort of pain and loss that you go through working at the ER.

In a rare, lengthy scene outside of the building itself, we saw Whitaker go to Ogilvie close to the end of the episode, telling him to go home and try to process what he’s gone through. Ogilvie did not even want to go inside to get the rest of his stuff! It is left open as to whether or not he will ever come back, and we would be surprised if we learn this season.

Would it shock us if this is really the end? Hardly. The Pitt as a show has done its part to demonstrate how difficult it is to be a healthcare worker, and also that you really need multiple skills to be successful. Ogilvie has a vast pool of knowledge but almost zero empathy or social skills. This may not be the job for him and while Joy and Emma may stick around in some capacity long-term, this could be the end for him. At the very least, we are prepared for that.
