Supriya Ganesh leaving The Pitt, Dr. Samira Mohan after season 2

The first big news has come out now regarding The Pitt season 3, and it is a sad revelation for everyone who loved Supriya Ganesh as Dr. Mohan.

According to a report from Variety, Ganesh will be leaving the series ahead of the new season, a decision that is story-based first and foremost. It does make sense that a teaching hospital would not retain all of its staff from one season to the next, just like we saw the departure of Dr. Heather Collins in season 1.

The writing has also been on the wall in a way for Dr. Mohan as of late, as it has become increasingly clear that she is struggling with being under the tutelage of Dr. Robby (Noah Wyle), who has talked down to her over the course of the day. He came down hard on her over a nervous breakdown and later, suggested that she go into geriatrics because she is struggling with the speed of day-to-day life in the ER.

As for who will replace Mohan as a part of the main cast, the aforementioned site also notes that Ayesha Harris, who has played Dr. Parker Ellis on the night shift of the show, will be brought in as a series regular. This makes an element of sense given that this is someone who has been a part of the world already and through that, likely has at least some relationship with Robby and the other doctors — even if she only sees them for a small chunk of her shift. She could also have been working with them for a while based on when season 3 starts. (There is a chance for a reasonable time jump between seasons.)
