Community movie still in the works; new Donald Glover update

Is there any project out there as elusive at this point as the Community movie over at Peacock? At this point, we are not sure there is! This project was first confirmed years ago and ever since, there are a number of reasons why it has not happened.

Obviously, one of the biggest ones goes all the way back to 2023, where the industry strikes that year made it almost impossible for anyone to work in the allotted dates. After that, there were plenty of scheduling issues. Given that this show has a ton of busy people including Donald Glover, Joel McHale, Alison Brie, Gillian Jacobs, and more, getting everyone available in the same place — even for a matter of weeks — is an incredibly difficult thing to do.

Well, we are at least happy to say that Glover is still eager to make it happen, no matter what else is going on. Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, here is what the actor behind Troy Barnes had to say:

“We were just on the text chain talking about it … We’re working on it right now. I know everybody’s been saying that for forever, but, I swear to you, I’m not lying about this. I really think it’s something that’s going to happen soon.”

How soon is “soon”? Well, it feels like this summer could be theoretically possible if all the schedules line up, but even that is far from guaranteed. Peacock has never canceled the project, and it does feel like all of the cast have been incredibly excited about the script they have read — which seems to revolve around a college reunion at Greendale.

Our best-case scenario at this point is honestly quite simple: That we get a chance to go back to Greendale at some point in 2027. Is that really too much to ask?
