The Bachelorette: Could Maura Higgins really be the next star?

Just one week after the cancellation of Taylor Frankie Paul’s season of The Bachelorette, could ABC pivot to another reality star? Well, let’s just say that there is at least some fun stuff to get into here when it comes to Maura Higgins.

Let’s just start by stating what is out there, and that a lot of this should be taken with a grain of salt. The rumor surrounding the Love Island / Traitors star’s participation in an upcoming season came via a Deuxmoi Instagram post, who claimed the producers are looking to adopt a close-to-real-time format to get the show out there sooner. Higgins herself responded to this with an eyes-looking emoji, suggesting that she could be rather interested when the dust settles.

Now, here is where we will say things do get a little bit tricky when it comes to this. Is such a pairing really possible? Higgins is so attached to the Peacock / NBCUniversal world thanks to Love Island, a rival dating show. Meanwhile, the way The Bachelorette typically films would not make it possible to adopt a different format beyond pre-taping the entire thing in advance. They would have to radically change how things functioned, whether it be the dates or the total length of filming.

Then again, you could argue that these are desperate times requiring some desperate measures. Both ABC and the studio may each be eager to do something quick to move beyond the Taylor Frankie Paul situation, which has brought them not only a number of negative headlines regarding their casting process, but also questions as to whether or not the franchise could ever continue in its current form.
