As many of you out there are likely aware of, Santos remains one of the most debated characters on The Pitt. Some love her and will stand by her through anything. Meanwhile, others feel as though she is frustrating to no end — and a lot of that is by design.

Take, for example, this character’s frequent tendency to push almost everyone away, including those who are actually trying to help her. That includes Whitaker, who lives with her and has offered support here and there all season … regardless of whether or not she wants it.

So why can’t Santos just let down the walls and listen to what he has to say? As it turns out, there is a pretty simple reason for it — a genuine fear of being hurt. In speaking on all of this further to Elle, here is some of what Isa Briones had to say:

“Whitaker is open to being that safe space, and that’s why she’s so resistant to it, because she knows he’d be her best friend … That’s what’s scary. She lost a best friend [who died by suicide]. She’s lost a lot of people in her life.”

At some point, we do 100% think that her life would be better if she would consider letting a lot of other people in, even if it is difficult. We do tend to think that repressed emotions are tied a lot to why she does continue to be so snappy in the ER; also, she clearly has not been able to talk about Langdon and her feelings there in any sort of productive manner. Venting about it with Garcia only goes so far, as that has been made clear already.
