Is Call the Midwife new tonight? It absolutely goes without saying but of course, we would love more of the British drama series and soon! There are, after all, so many interesting stories that could still be adapted, even if there was such a sense of closure after what we saw last week.

Speaking of closure, this is where we do have to get into the bad news: The series is set to be off the air for a while. Last week served as the season 15 finale and moving forward, the events of the present can be thought of as on hold. There is a season 16 coming, but it will be preceded by a couple of different things — a prequel set far before the events of season 1, and then also a feature film that will follow at least some of the current cast. It remains almost impossible to say when the next chapter of all this will arrive.

Now when it comes to what we know about season 16 of the show, it begins with the following: There could be a slight shift of setting. While we presume that the East End of London will still be a focus, we could be moving over to a community hospital or something of that ilk. With all the changes in society we aren’t too sure Nonnatus House can exist in its current form; yet, the tone, style, and heart of the institution can remain very-much present. We do not think that it will be going anywhere.

In the end, we anticipate more tears, more important stories, and still the same Call the Midwife world that we have come to love — some patience may just be required along the way.
