The Pitt season 2: Shawn Hatosy on Jack Abbot return

Over the past couple of episodes of The Pitt on HBO Max, we have been rather lucky to have a visit from Shawn Hatosy as Jack Abbot. He was one of the best characters on season 1, and that is one of many reasons why he ended up winning an Emmy for Guest Actor.
Now that we’ve said all of that, isn’t it crazy to learn that at one point, there was a chance that he could be around full-time in season 2? That did not come to pass, but we still have a notable arc here that included him showing up in full-on SWAT gear.

In speaking about all of this further to The Hollywood Reporter, here is what Hatosy had to say:
“There was some discussion early on when I joined the show about how maybe Abbot would come back full-time in season two, so I was eagerly awaiting the news … And then they came back to me to suggest that he’s in the E.R. in the middle of the season and I was like, what does that mean? Why am I coming in the middle? Am I dying? Am I coming in on a gurney?”
Ultimately, Abbot is very much alive and at this point, we are glad that he has been there to hand down some wisdom here and there to Robby. We can’t speak to whether or not Noah Wyle’s character will ever listen, but we do still think it is important. His status at the hospital is so integral in that he is one of the only people who can speak to Robby as a contemporary, and also from a space of knowing him for a really long time. We will celebrate him sticking around for as long as Shawn wants to keep doing the show.
