The Orville season 4 still possible, scripts have been written

We will be honest here in stating that at this point, we wondered if The Orville season 4 would ever seen the light of day. Season 3 premiered on Hulu nearly four years ago, and the last we heard about the future was late in 2024. It appeared as though things were close to coming together at one point, only to then fall apart. (We do wonder if the industry strikes of 2023 ended up throwing a lot of plans into a blender.)

What has always given us some element of optimism is the fact that Hulu has never canceled the series, and that made us believe that in a perfect world, they would love to make more happen. So is there still a chance we could see it happen?

Well, for now, let’s just say that when it comes to the story, things are actually more together than you would think. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter promoting Ted season 2, star and executive producer Seth MacFarlane offered up a rare progress report, noting that he is more the issue than anything else now:

“The 10 scripts are done … I’m the problem. It’s [a matter of] when I can make that my year, with all the other stuff we have in the works. But we can hit the ground running when it happens.”

The Orville is not an easy show to make: It is big, expensive, and takes a lot of time to edit together once it is done. Even in a miracle situation where season 4 is ordered tomorrow, we still would not likely see it until 2028. Would we still want it? Absolutely, as it is arguably the most mature and prescient thing that MacFarlane has ever done — and it legitimately got better with every passing season.

Are you still holding out hope that The Orville season 4 could happen in some form?
