In just a handful of days, you are going to have a chance to see the Call the Midwife season 15 finale — so what is going to happen?

Well, first and foremost, let’s just start things off here by noting that there are sweeping changes most likely ahead for a number of reasons. With the rise of the NHS, we do tend to think that Nonnatus House could be in jeopardy, and that is without even considering the fact that Trixie could be departing. We’ve been worried about that at some point and yet, she’s always stuck around. Is that going to change at this point? It feels fair to worry about that for the time being.

Now, there is a threat that something terrible could happen when it comes to Sister Monica Joan, whose condition has been on a rapid decline. Like Trixie, we have been worried about her future in the past, albeit for entirely different reasons. We are in a spot right now where we simply have to prepare for the worst because of one simple reason: This particular Call the Midwife finale will have more weight than most. It will be a good while until we get to see a season 16 and by the time we get around to it, the show may look and feel rather different. Some characters could be gone, and this is a world that has killed off people before.

Even within tragedy, we do also think there is a chance that there will be some element of community and hope. No matter what has transpired in Poplar over the years, that positive tone has always remained.
