Call the Midwife season 16: EP on ‘different setting’

As many of you may be aware at this point, the Call the Midwife season 15 finale is coming to BBC One next week and from what we can tell, there are major changes ahead. We are worried that Sister Monica Joan does not make it out of the season alive and beyond just that, there is a legitimate chance that Nonnatus House ceases to exist.

Some of you may already know what the short-term plans are for the series, which includes a prequel kicking off this Christmas followed by a feature film. A season 16 is coming but from where things currently stand, it seems as though we’re at least a couple of years off from it premiering.

Even with that being said, we are happy to at least have some sort of tease for what is to come. Speaking in a new interview with Yours, here is some of what executive producer Heidi Thomas had to say on the subject:

“We going to do a film that involves most the current cast, set in 1972, possibly 1973 … We’re going to do that first, then we’ll return to the current style. Series 16 will have a slightly different setting because of changes in NHS. It’ll still be in the East End of London but possibly something like a small community hospital or a GP practice, but that’s something I’ll be working on later this year.”

In general, it is our hope that we are going to be seeing a show that feels both similar and yet different at the same exact date. A new setting likely means different challenges but in general, we welcome some of that. Every show on television needs some sort of shake-up, right?
