After all, the folks at the network are more than incentivized to keep it on the air during key periods for as long as possible! However, for 2026 that simply is not happening, and there is one simple reason for it: The Winter Olympics. Because the Games are airing on NBC among other networks, they really have no choice but to preempt the long-running crime drama for a certain span of time.

As for when Law & Order will return with new episodes, the most likely answer here is Thursday, February 26. This is in the immediate aftermath of the Olympics and with that, we imagine that there will be a chance for a number of episodes to air in a row.

Unfortunately, we are still so far away from that date for there to be a lot of episode 13 details out there, but we imagine that will change over the next couple of weeks. In the end, we do not really imagine the crime drama doing all that much to change from its traditional DNA. There is a reason why the series has been on the air for as long as it has, and a lot of that has to do with a very particular structure of how the crimes play out — and how they are mixed with personal subplots with a lot of the characters.
