‘The Bachelorette’ video: Desiree Hartsock, Zak Waddell, and karaoke

Zak W.Only a show like “The Bachelorette” can overlay sincere music alongside a scene about a contestant singing karaoke with a 90-year old woman. The entire story is sincere without a doubt, but it’s still comical, and image just how much more interesting some of these conversations would be if they did not have that simple string music and the chimes over everything that is said.

This deleted scene from Monday night’s episode comes during Desiree Hartsock’s date with Zak Waddell, where he opens up about what most people would choose to keep a secret: A love for all things karaoke. Not only that, but a chance encounter at a bar led to him forming a partnership with some 90-year old woman with an old radio voice that he sings with on a weekly basis.

Is this whole story pretty sweet? Sure, but the music makes it seem as though every moment is a “connection,” and it creates those sort of overly-romantic expectations that are probably what gets this show mocked by so many people who don’t watch it. Zak has to appreciate the sort of edit that he is receiving so far this season; if he does not win Desiree’s heart in the end of this, we have a pretty hard time imagining that he will go home and not have an opportunity to meet women all throughout the state of Texas.
