Well, one of the things that is going to be really fun about the show over the next several weeks is seeing how Martin tries to acclimate himself to the residents of the town — but also all the mistakes he’s going to make along the way. This is not a show where we are watching a physician getting it right all the time — and if that wasn’t enough, you also have to consider the history that he has with a lot of the people within this world. Josh Charles is not going to be short on material anytime soon, and moving into the next story in particular, it seems like local sports will be a huge part of what is ahead.

On the eve of Port Wenn High School’s baseball team’s playoff game, the town is furious with Martin when he accidentally breaks the arm of their star player, who happens to be the son of his high school bully. However, Martin suspects the boy has a more serious condition. Meanwhile, Elaine moves into Martin’s waiting room after fighting with her mom, Aunt Sarah rivals with a fan of the opposing team, and Louisa makes a conscious effort to make some female friends in the all-new “Take Me Out of the Ballgame” episode of Best Medicine airing Tuesday, Jan 20 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. Our general feeling is that a lot of the early episodes of the medical show are meant to give you compelling cases, but also individually snapshots of all the characters. Sure, Martin will remain the focus, but there are a lot of other people who will effectively fill out the world.
