Black Mirror renewed by Netflix for season 8

For everyone out there eager to get more twisted stories from the world of Black Mirror, today we come bearing some excellent news — the Netflix anthology is on its way back!
In a new interview today with Tudum leading up to the Golden Globes, creator Charlie Brooker had the following to say when asked about the future: “Well, luckily it does have a future, so I can confirm that Black Mirror will return, just in time for reality to catch up with it. So, that’s exciting. That chunk of my brain has already been activated and is whirring away.”

There are certainly many challenges Brooker faces with a show of this nature, but he really spells out one of the biggest ones here right away: How can you create fiction that is actually stranger than the truth at this point? We saw touches of the AI boom throughout season 7, which we would argue was one of the better seasons in a rather long time. “Common People” touched heavily on the corporate-tech greed that exists in today’s society, whereas “Hotel Reverie” looked extensively at the blurred lines between reality and the virtual world. Of Course, we also had the much-anticipated sequel to “USS Callister,” and there is a chance that more of these follow-up stories could happen down the line.
It is a little too early at this point to speculate on possible premiere dates for season 8, but our feeling is that the first half of 2027 makes the most sense — some of it will depend on when filming starts but beyond that, the amount of special effects. Brooker also needs whatever time is necessary to craft the remainder of these stories — something this consistently good cannot be rushed.
