Pluribus season 2: How will Manousos navigate cliffhanger?

In the wake of the Pluribus season 1 finale on Apple TV this week, we more than understand some of the questions that could be floating around out there. Take, for example, what Carol could really be doing with that atom bomb.

Now, there is one read on the finale where you can argue that this is just creator Vince Gilligan playing around with a bit that was introduced earlier this season. Yet, at the same time this also represents that Carol means business. If she wanted to, she really could take out the Joined in a pretty severe fashion, which may reset the balance of power after Zosia informed her that she only had a few months, at most, before they turned her thanks to her frozen eggs.

So how is Manousos going to react to all this? That’s another interesting question, given the fact that he has been more hardcore than anyone when it comes to taking out the Joined. He and Carol are seemingly on the same page, but will it last? Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, here is what the actor behind the role in Carlos-Manuel Vesga had to say:

It was very interesting because I felt that for the first time this whole season, we see Manousos confused. We saw that drive and that strength that pulled him through the whole journey to get to Albuquerque, but suddenly, he doesn’t know what to do with this information. He appreciates that she’s back. She seems to be on his side again. But he’s like, “Wait a minute, this atom bomb is too big a toy. I’m not sure what this is about.” And I love that. The character that we’ve seen throughout the season doesn’t stop moving forward. He struggles through a journey, but he never loses purpose. And that’s the point where his purpose gets all blurry. He’s like, “I don’t know what to do with this thing,” and I love that ending for the character at the end of season one.

Ultimately, we do think that Manousos will be continuously relentless in his search for answers, but he’s going to make some mistakes along the way. After all, he knows as much (or as little) about the Joined as all of us collectively.
