‘Happy Endings’ season 4 will not happen; show officially dead
Now comes a time that we as a reporter hate: Having to be the bearer of bad news when it comes to the fate of a TV series that we personally very much enjoy, and on this occasion this said show is none other than ABC’s critically-acclaimed “Happy Endings.” So yes, the irony here is that there will be no happy ending to a show that fought hard after ABC canceled it earlier this year due to low ratings.
Among the reported contenders to land the series included USA, TBS, and even another broadcast network in NBC. Unfortunately, none of them were ultimately interested enough in the show to give this another chance, despite how much they may have loved the episodes.
From a business standpoint, we do understand this one. If you remember back to the days of “Cougar Town” last year getting a second life at TBS, their ratings were not as low as they are for “Happy Endings.” Not only that, but they have a star in Courteney Cox that everyone is familiar with, and also someone in Busy Philipps with that “Freaks and Geeks” fan base still intact. “Happy Endings” has great actors, but is a harder sell to a mainstream audience.
The other sad part about this news is that none of these actors now have a shot at landing a new permanent job on an upcoming comedy for the fall, pending some last-minute inclusion. Perhaps Damon Wayans Jr. will stop by “New Girl” again after leaving the show following the pilot, or maybe Casey Wilson can reprise her “How I Met Your Mother” role from this past finale.
Feel free to eulogize this great show below, and we’ll keep you informed if there is ever a campaign to bring it back to life.
