‘Pretty Little Liars’ season 4 spoilers: Keegan Allen talks learning more about Toby

Are you ready for a deeper side of Keegan Allen’s Toby? Let’s hope so, since you are about to start getting it courtesy of the “Pretty Little Liars” season 4 premiere on Tuesday night. This character has long been a fan favorite, but at the same time he is also someone who is almost-constantly shrouded in some sort of mystery.

Luckily, you won’t have to wait that long for some answers as to what this character is really all about. Allen gave a rather lengthy interview recently to Entertainment Weekly, and in it he promises that there are some major and shocking things coming up for his character soon:

“I got my first off-location shoot recently. Toby goes somewhere to find something out. The season really is, at least for Toby, I’ve had the privilege of really digging very deep into this character’s past, finding out so much more. Marlene King is such a brilliant, brilliant writer and developer of stories, plots, twists. She has written my character in such a way that season four is now diving into behind his past. I’ve never really known that much about him. Now I get all those secrets, which are just heart-wrenching.”

Allen was also quick to remind viewers that while Toby may love Spencer on one level, he also still has a reason to feel vindictive against the Liars as a whole. Therefore, it is probably a mistake to sit here and assume that the character is fighting whole-heartedly for the good guys, when in reality the answer is much more complicated than that.
