2013 Critics Choice’ TV Awards: Kaley Cuoco, Melissa Rauch lead ‘Big Bang Theory’ battle
If you were surprised to see no nominations whatsoever for “Modern Family” in the Supporting Actor category for the Critics’ Choice TV Awards, you are probably equally shocked right about now to see Sarah Hyland as the sole representative in the Supporting Actress field. There are some interesting contenders in here, but our real question is whether or not two extremely talented actors from “The Big Bang Theory” will end up competing, or canceling each other out for the award.
Of course, you must remember that these opinions are strictly our own, and we want to hear from you as well! Be sure to share in the comments just who you think is the most likely to walk away with a trophy at the ceremony on June 10.
The nominees – Carly Chaikin, “Surburgatory” (ABC), Kaley Cuoco, “The Big Bang Theory” (CBS), Sarah Hyland, “Modern Family” (ABC), Melissa Rauch, “The Big Bang Theory” (CBS), Eden Sher, “The Middle” (ABC), Casey Wilson, “Happy Endings” (ABC)
The surprises – For us, seeing Cuoco here rather than the lead category is somewhat surprising given her air time, but you also have to throw Chaikin in here, given that her underrated take is not something critics have shown much of an interest in recognizing before now. Sher and Wilson are somewhat surprising, but without a “Modern Family” overload they probably would have been here several times before now.
The snubs – We do still have to say Julie Bowen, even if she’s a popular choice year after year, and what about “Community’s” Gillian Jacobs? Mayim Bialik from “The Big Bang Theory,” Jenna Fischer from “The Office,” Anna Chlumsky from “Veep,” and Allison Williams from “Girls” should all be considered.
Who should win – For us, the answer is going to be Melissa Rauch, since Bernadette is such a fun character that allows her to play so many emotional extremes. In such a talented cast, it’s easy to forget that this is not even her actual speaking voice that she’s using. Sher winning would also be very validating to show how strong “The Middle” is year after year without any recognition.
Who will win – We do still feel like critics love “Modern Family” (even this show), so we’re going to say Hyland. The “Big Bang Theory” stars may cancel each other out, and Wilson could be a sentimental favorite given the state of flux “Happy Endings” is in right now.
