‘Saturday Night Live’ re-watch: DeJesus Uncrossed, Marco Rubio are still funny

There are shows out there that we are at times glad to have a break from. However, “Saturday Night Live” is not one of those shows. It’s weird, wacky, and when it hits, it is brilliant. Plus, there are not many other places during the week where you can have relevant and biting satire in the form of sketch comedy, and it’s all thanks to the hard work these folks put into making this show great.

It is our love of all things “SNL” that allows us to do re-watches for most new episodes, and the general consensus is that most of them are not as funny the second time around. The same unsurprisingly goes for the episode airing again this weekend featuring Christoph Waltz and musical guest Alabama Shakes. It was only a slightly above average show to begin with when it first aired, with the real strength of it being how bold and brazen our host was in trying to get a good laugh.

Unfortunately, thanks to the rapid-fire news cycle, many of the show’s sketches, including some that do not really involve him (including the Carnival Cruise opening) do not work as well as they once did. Why? Simply blame it on relevancy, and that most people have already forgotten about what was news several weeks ago. There are still three sketches that hold up well, and you can find them in the full episode video below.

1. DeJesus Uncrossed – A brilliant Quentin Tarantino spoof featuring a man who has found great success in part thanks to being in Tarantino movies. It may be offensive, but it works.

2. Marco Rubio – While some may have already forgotten about how parched the politician was during his Republican response speech earlier this year, this is worth watching again for the mere physical comedy of it.

3. Regine – This is an evergreen sketch, and there’s something about Fred Armisen trying to make Waltz uncomfortable that is very, very funny. With the right host, this recurring character of a temperamental (and very handsy) girlfriend is one worth seeing again.
