ABC’s ‘Castle’ season 5 spoilers: Will we ever see a Lanie story?

Whenever you have a show that has been on the air for as long as “Castle” has, there are inevitably going to be questions as to when some of the supporting stars are going to receive time in the limelight. While we have seen episodes in the past year that dive a little deeper into Ryan and Esposito’s own history, there has been little to nothing revealed thus far about the history of Tamala Jones’ Lanie. This has to be someone with at least a little bit of an interesting past behind her, but thus far there has not been a place to include a story specific to the character.

So could this change in the future? It’s possible, at least based on what executive producer Andrew W. Marlowe said recently to Give Me My Remote:

“Maybe … It’s been complicated to work out, to find the right way to expose her backstory.”

When you consider the fact that “Castle” generally has somewhere between 22 and 24 episodes in a season, we do believe that this is something that will come out eventually. After all, the show has given us small morsels of the relationship between Lanie and Esposito, and we have to imagine that in order to see the two take the next step, it will be important for the viewer to figure out a little bit more as to who she really is.

One thing you can be assured of? That this episode won’t happen in season 5. The episodes have already been laid out, and no supporting character moving forward is going to have a showcase like we saw earlier in the season.
