‘The Good Wife,’ ‘The Mentalist,’ ‘Blue Bloods,’ ‘Survivor,’ more renewed by CBS
Well, CBS certainly wanted to ensure that most of their primetime programming felt secure going into the Easter holiday. After all, the network announced today that they are renewed the vast majority of their block for another season, including some that were expected and a few surprises.
Before we dive into the analysis of this news, let’s start by just sharing the shows announced here: “The Big Bang Theory,” “Elementary,” “Person of Interest,” “The Good Wife,” “2 Broke Girls,” “Mike & Molly,” “How I Met Your Mother,” “NCIS,” “NCIS: Los Angeles,” “CSI,” “Hawaii Five-0,” “The Mentalist,” “Blue Bloods,” “The Amazing Race,” “Survivor,” “Undercover Boss,” “60 Minutes,” and “48 Hours.”
Of this list, the biggest surprises come via the fact that CBS is not making fans of either “The Good Wife” or “The Mentalist” sweat it out, as neither show has been particularly good on Sunday nights. Meanwhile, “Undercover Boss” has been on and off the schedule, and “The Amazing Race” was the subject of some recent controversy about a leg in Vietnam.
So where are “Two and a Half Men” and “Criminal Minds”? Both shows are expected to return, but the network is still in negotiation with the casts for the both series. The other omissions here more ratings based, and they are two new dramas in “Vegas” and “Golden Boy,” the long-running “CSI: NY,” and the always-on-the-bubble comedy “Rules of Engagement.” Our prediction is that “Golden Boy” may get another chance, but the others are probably done for. (We’ll have deeper analysis in some upcoming ratings debate articles.)
What do you think about CBS renewing so many of their series at once, and do you think any of the shows on the bubble will survive? Be sure to share some of your thoughts below!
