‘American Idol’ notes: Adam Lambert, David Archuleta, Phillip Phillips
For all of you night owls out there, we have quite a bit of “American Idol” news to break down, and it begins with the big news from the world of Adam Lambert: the “We Are Glamily” tour is complete!
The final stop on the tour was a city in Helsinki that has always been good to Adam. Fans were waiting outside (in the bitter cold, no less!) for hours in order to see the show, and based on everything we’ve heard, it was an undisputed success. We wanted to enclose one video from the show below, and the one we chose is “Outlaws of Love” because we like the interaction with the crowd beforehand, and also the fact that there is everything from reggae to funk to 1960s activist song all rolled into one with this performance. (Video source.)
Big Phillip Phillips news – Phillip’s talent as a touring artist is clearly getting recognized. Clearly. He’s already opened for Matchbox 20 on a number of their shows, and now, the news is that he is going to be joining John Mayer on his enormous tour this coming spring a summer, which is his first in three years.
Mayer suggests around the 50-minute mark in the video below that Phillip will be opening for him at all of his shows, but we can’t verify the specifics on that. All we know is that this guy has got himself a great team around him, and that people like Mayer seem to be appreciating his musical sensibility so much that he is diving into that world post-“Idol” almost without any problems at all.
David Archuleta album preview – Finally, a quick announcement for all David fans out there: if you want to preview his entire new album “No Matter How Far,” you can do so over on Billboard. We’ll have some more in-depth coverage of the disc soon, but for now we just have to applaud everyone close to the season 7 alum for finding more and more ways to keep him in the spotlight, even though he is currently going still on a Mormon mission in Latin America.
If you want to see our “American Idol” interview with Paul Jolley from this afternoon, you can do so over at the link here.

I echo all of the comments above regarding Adam Lambert. He has shared his amazing talent with other parts of the world for a while, which is a good thing, but I know I’m not his only fan who is anxious for him to come home! ( The South would be a good place to start !!!)

Phillips was my fave from the start on Idol. Saw him perform set in Dallas. It was nice but not sure he’s the kind of guy who can fill large venues. He seems at this point more of an intimate setting performer, but time will tell. Just standing there singing doesn’t really cut it–at least in the pop world. Apparently it works in country. Speaking of performers, nobody owns the stage like Adam Lambert, and that’s a fact. This man can fill and satisfy large arenas as he has done resently, and it’s common knowledge that his voice dominates at this point in time. Too bad USA still has biases against a gay singer who is proud of his sexual identity. After seeing Mr. Lambert perform in London with Queen, this is the only conclusion I can draw. The Brits also conclude the same thing and wonder why he didn’t win Idol and why he is not as appreciated in his home country as throughout the world. Actually they know the reason but were being polite. USA is not exactly tolerant towards any differences.

Thanks for keeping us informed about these three good things that have come out of American Idol. All good artists and Adam and Archie are both very charismatic in their own ways. I am looking forward to a few from this year too.

ADAM is such a versatile performer that he can sing ANY song … ANY genre … and make it his own … as well as being a great singer/songwriter … that can draw you in & touch you deeply with his music as well as his PHENOMENAL Vocals. As far as I’m concerned … I don’t need any other music … ADAM can do it all … ADAM NEVER DISAPPOINTS!!

Now if we could only get Adam to do a few tour-like shows here in the states! What a fantastic reception he got wherever he went, as usual. He’s such a star, such a unique voice in today’s music world. They love him across the world. What’s up USA? As for Phillip, he’s perfect for the US, but I wonder since he did say that Home was not really his style when he was first given that song, what kind of artist we’d have if he’d hit the jackpot with his own pick? Anyway, nice artist.

I can’t wait for David to come home from his mission. Missing him much for all the reasons already mentioned by others. He is one special person, seriously. I am loving the song selection in this new album! His voice is beautiful, extremely identifiable, emotive, velvety smooth and resonant.

Thanks for posting the Billboard link where people can hear David Archuleta’s whole new album (DavidArchie on twitter)! What a great group of songs – I’m so glad they are now released (or released in the US) so we can hope to hear some of them at future concerts! My favorites are the soaring ballad Everything and More, the very relateable Notice Me, the so so sad but beautiful Philippines ballad Tell Me, and the never-released tracks Don’t Run Away (first single) and Heart Falls Out (great beat and hooks!). I am looking forward to my preorder – going right in the car CD player.

Adam is so versatile and can change up songs making them sound good in whatever style he chooses. I really like the reggae beat to this.
Thanx for the Adam update, Carter.

Adam is an amazing talent. His talent is diverse and undeniable. He can sing it all flawlessly – reggae, rock, ballads, pop, funk…you name it, he can sing it. The fat that he is intelligent, articulate, compassionate and down-to-earth is the topping on an already sky high cake.

Germany: Regarding David, when he sings the right songs for him, it is totally about the music. But the real pluses that make David so super special are the other things you mentioned and more. I can’t believe that a person can be so young and know so much about living and is so loving and caring about others. Unique hardly tells it and that is why once you’re into David you can never let go.

If I had a choice of an album coming out or David coming home – I’d choose the latter! We miss him so much and wish the 2nd year was over. His fans have a special bond with this young artist and it’s not so much about the music or the voice, but the spirit, humbleness, and uniqueness of his personality. Is it 2014 yet?
