‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 4: Ian Somerhalder, Nina Dobrev head to New York
Don’t you love a good flashback episode of “The Vampire Diaries”? Well after we saw a good bit of life for the characters during World War II earlier this season, the upcoming March 21 episode “Because the Night” is going to focus on a completely different backdrop that one Damon Salvatore previously called home: New York City.
Based on the synopsis for this episode via The CW, what much of this really seems to be about at the moment is a necessary escape for Elena from her current troubles, which include the death of Jeremy and the decision to turn off her humanity leading her to become someone cold, calculating, and extremely dangerous to much of Mystic Fall’s human population. Plus, we are going to see the return of an old favorite:
“Realizing that Elena (Nina Dobrev) needs some time away from Mystic Falls, Damon (Ian Somerhalder) takes her to New York City, where he lived and partied hard in the 1970s. When Rebekah (Claire Holt) also shows up in New York, she’s impressed with Elena’s secret agenda. Flashbacks reveal Damon’s hedonistic life in the underground club scene and a complicated encounter with Lexi (guest star Arielle Kebbel). Meanwhile, Caroline (Candice Accola) and Stefan (Paul Wesley) try to convince Klaus (Joseph Morgan) that it would be in his own best interest to help them track Silas down, and Bonnie (Kat Graham) struggles to keep her grasp on reality and do the right thing.”
So what could Elena’s “agenda” be? While everything else in this episode seems to be fairly cut-and-dry based on the synopsis, this is something still lurking behind closed doors along with whatever sort of history is there between Damon and Lexi, long known more as Stefan’s protector.
Do you think seeing Elena and Damon in New York will help to show off some new sides to the characters? If you want to read the latest on the upcoming spin-off series “The Originals,” you can do so by heading over to the link here.
