‘New Girl’ season 2, episode 17 review: Nick, Jess, and Schmidt’s parking wars
In the post-kiss environment on “New Girl,” it is inevitable that things are going to change when it comes to life in the loft. Nick and Jess have spent much of the past two episodes trying to figure out where they stood following locking lips, and there did not appear to be that much of a defined answer … until now.
So how did order get restored to the loft? Well, Schmidt decided that he would kiss Jess in order to even things out after the three had a long and drawn-out feud for a parking spot that was highlighted by some increasingly uncomfortable tension, only for Schmidt to then realize that this somehow managed to make things even weirder. (Go figure.) We did appreciate the random shout-out to Coach in here, mostly because we find it so hilarious that the writers have yet to even bring Damon Wayans Jr. back for just one episode even in spite of the fact that “Happy Endings” had a shorter third season.
As for who actually ended up receiving the parking spot, the honor went to someone who the gang felt needed it: Winston, who spent an entire episode desperate to find himself the means necessary to sleep with Daisy. Not only did he fail here, but he also got so long trying to find her apartment again that he was left out on the street, wearing a pair of black sweatpants with “Yum!” written on the back in pink.
While “Parking Spot” was not necessarily the best episode of the show ever, it was still a hilarious half-hour of television that also pushed forward the story a little bit. It’s clear that Nick and Jess do still have some feelings there between the two of them, but it could also be a while before they act on them.
