‘Private Practice’ season 6 spoilers: A look into Jake’s world (video)

As we wrote about on Tuesday, ABC has made an interesting decision when it comes to “Private Practice” season 6: thanks in part to all of the constant preemptions and their desire to end the show in time to start up some new programming next year, the network is airing another new episode tonight … the show’s first Wednesday airing ever.

So what will be the focus of this hour? In a word, Jake. Much as we saw last week with Sam, this episode is going to spotlight an individual character along with their emotional journey on the show, and it is fair to say that Jake has come a long way. Just this season alone the character has started a new relationship with Addison, and there is going to be some serious tension that arises early and often during this episode. Why? Kate Walsh’s character makes it clear what she is looking for from this relationship in the long-term, but he may not necessarily agree.

It’s almost sad in a way that “Private Practice” is going out with a ratings whimper this year rather than a bang, but at least the show can smile at the fact that the numbers for Tuesday night’s new episode (primarily a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic) are higher than they were at this point last week. Sadly, the show has been damaged badly by airing at a time following a low-rated show in “Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23,” whereas the rest of its run it either aired after “Dancing with the Stars” or “Grey’s Anatomy.”
