The Simpsons isn’t ending anytime soon, says showrunner

Simpsons

It’s already pretty clear The Simpsons is one of the most successful TV shows in history — how else do you describe a show that’s been on longer than the total age of most of its viewers?

Yet, all things do have to come to an end eventually … and there are always going to be rumors suggesting that it’s curtains for Homer and the rest of the family. The latest ones come courtesy of a new quote from composer Danny Elfman, one where he suggested that the show may be ending in the near future. This is the sort of thing that could send off flares into the sky … but it may not be true here in the slightest.

In a new post on Twitter, show executive producer Al Jean confirmed that the reports that are out there are not true, and the series is going to be sticking around for at least the immediate future. This, of course, doesn’t mean that we will be seeing it stick around forever, but there aren’t any signs that Fox is going to pump the brakes now.

After all, why would Fox want to conclude it? The ratings are still better than the majority of their animated shows, it’s popular all over the world, and it doesn’t seem like the voice cast wants to step away. Whenever The Simpsons does end, we don’t think that it’s going to end courtesy of a small statement by the composer. Instead, we have a feeling that Fox and the producers will make the biggest statement possible. They will want to make sure that it has one of the greatest send-offs in recent television history. That’s really one of the only ways to send it off into the sunset.
