This Is Us season 4 spoilers: Will we meet mother of Malik’s baby?

Through most of This Is Us season 4, we’ve had a chance to learn a number of different things all about Malik. He is one of the most notable newcomers on the series this time around, and his connection with Deja has already been made clear. To go along with that, there’s also how Randall and Beth feel about the relationship, which is very much a big part of the story in its own right. Their feelings towards Malik reflect in just how much time they are letting her spend with him.

Now, there is one other important person to think about — the mother of Janelle, Malik’s baby. This is an important person in this story, but also someone who is not playing a huge part in the present action of things right now.

Speaking in a new interview via TVLine, here is some of what executive producer Dan Fogelman had to say on the subject — after noting that the mother’s presence has less to do with her relationship with Malik and “more about what it means from Deja’s point of view”:

“This young girl is not just Malik’s ex-girlfriend. She’s an ex-girlfriend who is the mother of his child — a child he spends all of his time and energy on. So it makes it complicated for her.”

We would assume that Janelle’s mother would have a role in the story that lasts longer than a scene or two, but we don’t foresee her being a series regular. She’ll have her impact, and we wouldn’t be surprised if she makes sporadic appearances moving forward … at least provided that Malik continues to be in Deja’s life.
