Outlander notes: Sam Heughan on season 6, mixing it up for Bloodshot
Speaking via The Scottish Sun from the red carpet, Sam spoke a little bit about the long-term future of the Starz drama — though not in a way that commits to anything beyond season 6:
“We will see how long Outlander goes for. We’re on season five and we’re definitely doing season six … But Bloodshot was great to just do something completely different.”
Bloodshot is Sam’s new movie, premiering in February that also stars Vin Diesel. He actually had a pretty-funny quote on the subject of appearing alongside him: “Vin Diesel is an amazing man and to beat him up was a great honour.”
In getting back to Sam’s quote about the future of the series, we don’t really read too much into it one way or another. Sam can’t comment on a season 7 when he doesn’t know anything — we do think that there are probably some behind-the-scenes conversations happening already, mostly because the writers are already working on season 6 and they will probably need to learn if they should wrap up the story. We feel like there’s a reasonably good chance at a season 7 but, beyond that, things get a little more dicey and unpredictable. It’s hard for any premium cable drama to last more than seven years, though we have seen it with Game of Thrones, Shameless, Dexter, and others.
By this time next year, we feel like we’ll learn more about the long-term future of the series.
How long do you think a show like Outlander is going to last for?
Be sure to share right now in the comments, and remember to also stick around for some other news on the series.
